Today I did a great run! I'm very happy with it, because it shows that I have been capable all along of a truly quite decent time, and that I'll eventually make that 20:00 barrier that I have my sights on. The more like these I can keep cranking out, the easier they'll become, and I hope that I'll be able to make sub-22 if I push a bit harder. Nevertheless, the level of exhaustion is certainly palpable, and I even skipped my water break that I usually take in the middle of these in order to gain time and avoid delays; although that helped massively in cutting down the time, and will probably become an increasingly important part of cutting down times as I continue to gain endurance (and thus become more able to skip these breaks), it may frankly be healthier to take them properly and take care that I don't overheat. Indeed, I was getting very hot towards the end, which was probably a bigger driving factor for the eventual slowness that I took on than simple fatigue and breathlessness (which I actually dealt with very well today); thus, as the months continue to get hotter, my times may be faced with an unfortunate wall (or ceiling) that they'll have to contend with. Nevertheless, today's achievement was very heartening, although even now as I write this I feel somehow a negative burden on my heart – to a degree, I can't help but wonder whether these all-out runs are truly good for me after all. It stands to reason that heart exercise is good, but, still... maybe if I hit my goal, I'll tone things down to give myself a bit of a calmer time. But I want to prove that I can.

25 April 2025 | 24:43 | Strong first bit, but then felt ache in heart for the remainder & slowed down |
25 April 2025 | ~27:00 | Super hot, and super hungry! I'm putting ~27:00, since I don't want to speculate how long it took me to stop the stopwatch after I finished. It read 27:18.04, though. I'm gonna avoid runs on hot days from now on. |
5 May 2025 | 24:16 | I thought that this time was surely a mistake of some kind, considering I felt that I ran kind of slow during the later half, but after the next time, I think it might have been real too! |
9 May 2025 | 22:33 | DAMN! I went ALL OUT on this one, and I don't think I'm beating it again any time soon! I once again nearly collapsed by the end, and, like most of these runs, I felt my consciousness wear down as the laps piled up. However, I pushed very hard on the flat parts of the course (8 + 1/3 laps), which made massive gains over previous times. I am very happy with this time! |
